Messy Play at Home (?!)

Messy Monkeys is a fantastic place to come for all your messy play needs… it saves you having to clean up your lovely home for one!  However for those of you missing out we’ve come up with a few ideas that shouldn’t cause you too much stress in your house… maybe try them out in the garden on a sunny day?!

Great for CREATIVITY

Grab some paper and glue.  Collect as many ‘things’ as you can in your garden to create a summer collage.  Let your monkey go wild sticking down flower petals, leaves, bits of grass – a little bit of outside to display proudly inside!

Great for MANUAL DEXTERITY

Make some playdough – great recipe for our stuff here – easy to make and fantastic for little hands to manipulate!

Great for SCIENTIFIC LEARNING

Ice cubes, with added paint, glitter or ‘treasures’  such a feathers, keys, small toys hidden inside them make easy messy play for a sunny day – pop them on a tray in the sunshine and watch the heat melt the ice. Messy Science in action!

Great for LEARNING ABOUT COLOURS

Fill a paddling pool (or a bucket… or some mixing bowls) with water and add splashes of paint to explore mixing colours… start off with yellow… add blue to make green or red to make orange.  You don;t have to use much paint and the water will be an instant wash station!

Great for IMAGINARY PLAY

Cornflour is the messy play stuff of dreams… we can use it to make all manner of gloopy goos!  A great one for the garden in the Summer is to use it to make pretendy ice cream…   In a casserole sized pan mix about 200g of cornflour with warm water until you have a gloopy substance (you can stop here – this is great messy play too!) then fill up your pan and boil the whole lot up stirring constantly.  Leave it white for vanilla, add a little red for strawberry, a splash of brown for chocolate.  It is hotter than the core of the sun when ready so leave it to cool overnight then grab your ice cream scoops and your cornets and set up your own pretend ice cream stall!
